Abstract

The preceding study was an attempt to evaluate the potential of the use of niosomes (NISVs) as delivery systems to enhance the effect and prolong the action of the anti-inflammatory drugs as diclofenac sodium and piroxicam. In-vitro evaluation of these systems is an important pre-requisite before in-vivo administration. An optimum formulation encapsulating a high percentage of the drug which could be released at a controllable rate in-vitro over a prolonged period of time, (Tween 60/Span 60/Chol in a molar ratio of 25/25/50 for diclofenac sodium and Span 40/Chol/SA in a molar ratio of 45/45/10 for piroxicam), could then be considered for use in a clinical evaluation. In conclusion, this thesis has shown the potential of using vesicular forms as controlled release drug delivery systems for the topical delivery of diclofenac sodium and oral delivery of piroxicam to experimental animals.
