Abstract
This study included 30 patients; 20ales and 10 females. Their ages ranged between 18 to 42 years, and they were divided into 3 groups according to history and clinical examination, group (I) included 15 patients with mild ulcerative colitis, group (II) included 10 patients with moderate U.C. and group (III) included 5 patients with severe U.C.
They were subjected to full clinical examination, urine and stool analysis, complete blood picture, ESR, complete liver function tests, abdominal ultrasound, colonoscopic examination and histopathologic evaluation of the specimens.The followingresultsreobtained:
•Regarding subjective symptoms, bloody diarrhea was the commonest symptom found in all cases followed by abdominal pain in 66.6% of cases, while the least frequent symptoms were tenesmus and passage of mucopus only in 10% of patients.
• According to clinical examination, loss of weight was the most common finding in 66.6% of cases followed by pallor which was noted in 60% of patients.
• All the studied groups show pus and red blood cells in stool analysis.<br.
