Abstract

INSTRUMENTAL METHODS OF ANALYSIS FOR CERTAIN PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOUNDS CONTAINING METHOXYL AND PHENOLIC GROUPS In this thesis, some pharmaceutical drugs containing phenolic group (etilefrine HCl, hexoprenaline HCl, levodopa and carbidopa) and methoxyl group (mebevrine HCl, trimebutine maleate, and verapamil HCl) were studied.
The thesis consists of two parts:
Part (I):
This part demonstrates a theoretical basic background review on the previous methods used for the determination of the cited drugs.
Part (II):
This part include the experimental study and it is devided into three sections
Section (1):
Consists of two chapters
Chapter (1):
It describes a simple spectrophotometric method based on oxidative coupling reaction of etilefrine HCl, hexoprenaline HCl, levodopa or carbidopa with 3-methyl benzothiazolin-2-one hydrazone (MBTH).
Chapter (2):
It describes a simple spectrophotometric method based on reaction of mebevrine HCl, trimebutine maleate, or verapamil HCl with 3-methyl benzothiazolin-2-one hydrazone (MBTH).
The proposed method was applied for the determination of the cited drugs in their pharmaceutical preparations applying the standard addition technique and the results obtained demonstrate good precision and accuracy.
The results obtained by the proposed method showed good agreement with those obtained by the B.P. or reference methods using student (t-test) and the variance ratio (F-test). The calculated values didn’t exceed the theoretical ones, indicating no significant difference neither in accuracy nor in precision between the compared methods
