Patients treated with identical doses of antipsychotic medication show great interindividual
Differences in their steady – stale plasma concentration of the parent compound acd metabolites .
There fore , routine monitoring of antipsychotic drug plasma levels remains of research interest . in a trial to relate the clinical response to plasma or serum levels . This will result in we defined guidelines to individualized optimal dosage
This study was con ducted on more than forty eight Newsland mae rabbits weighing between 1.5 and 2.1kg .to measure the serum concentrations of haloperidol (apotent antipsychotic drug ) at different time intervals . alter oral and intramuscular administration of haloperidol suspension in polyethylene glycol -400/ water mixture .
Rabbits were divided into six groups. (,iiand lll) were administered haloperidol orally by astomach tube in adose 2 mg / kg
The other three groups (LV.V and VL ) were administered the drug intramusculary in adose 1mg/kg . Each group contained between eight and ten animals
Blood samplets were taken as follows :-
GroupISamples were taken at 0,1,5 and 12 hours
Grup II : Samples were taken at 0,3,8,24 and 48 hours
Group III : Samples were taken at 0,8,18and 24 hours
The same sampling times were appied for the three intramuscular groups .
