Abstract

The present aims at investigating the chemical, microbiological changes and some enzyme activities that may take place during composting of different mixtures of some organic residues .i.e. banana trees residues and cattle dung. In addition, the effect of Trichoderma viride, Phanerochate chrysosporium and /or periodical disturbing or non-disturbing of the composted materials was examined periodically during the composting period (16-week) .The produced types of composts were subjected to evaluation of their suitability as manures or fertilizers through a pot experiment using sorghum as an indicator plant cultivated in sandy soil. The most important results are summarized as follows: The obtained results indicate that, inoculation of sorghum plants with certain microbial inocula and addition of banana trees residues composts increased plant growth and nutrients uptake .The highest increments of this parameter were achieved under used higher compost 2(banana trees residues + cattle dung +Trichoderma viride + Phanerochaete chrysosporium) than 1( banana trees residues+ chemical active +Trichoderma viride +Phanerochaete chrysosporium )on other hand ,the completely and partially compost 2 induced a positive effect on the availability of nutrients such as N,P and K which is reflected on uptake by plant shoots .Total counts of bacteria , Azospirillum counts and silicate decomposing bacteria in soil as well as the availability of mineral N,P and K were enhanced by organic manuring and inoculation with certain microbial inocula .Moreover ,the addition of organic manure increased the organic matter and total of N,P and K percentage in the soil and lead to a slight decrease in its pH and EC values . Therefore , adding banana trees residues compost to sandy soil in presence of chemical fertilizer as well as certain microbial inocula could be recommended to obtain the best results for sorghum growth and favourable nutrients uptake
