Abstract Pyrimidine-Biological Interest. Pyrimidines are important class of organic compounds both as natural products and synthetic targets . Various types of synthesis and pharmacological properties of pyrimidine derivatives are reviewed . This investigation describes the most suitable conditions for O- and N-alkylation of 4-methyl-6-phenylpyrimidine-2-ol by using ethyl bromoacetate . O-alkylation proceeds as the major pathway in ethanol containing sodium ethoxide . N-alkylation occurs as the alternative pathway in dimethylformamide containing sodium ethoxide . Identification of the new compounds was substantiated by spectral data , elemental analysis and in some cases by unambiguous synthesis . |
