Abstract

Field experiments were carried out at area of land at Manzala city, El- Dakahlia governorate for potato and area of land at El Assassin village, El Sharkia governorate for peanut to develop a multi purpose digger for harvesting root crops (potato and peanut), separating them from soil and transporting them over soil surface with maximum harvesting efficiency and minimum both of losses and mechanical damage, selecting the optimum conditions (forward speed – tilt angle – vibrating movement) for operating the developed digger and Comparing the developed digger results once with using the vibrating movement and once without using it. The obtained results concluded that: 1. The obtained data for potato showed that the highest percentage of mechanical damage of 4 % was recorded at forward speed of 2.6 km / h and tilt angle 12ْ without using the vibrating movement, While the lowest percentage of mechanical damage of 2.1 % was recorded at forward speed 1.6 km / h and tilt angle 24ْ with using the vibrating movement. For peanut the highest percentage of mechanical damage of 2.75 % was recorded at forward speed of 2.3 km / h and tilt angle 24ْ without using the vibrating movement. While the lowest percentage of mechanical damage of 0.6 % was recorded at forward speed of 1.4 km / h and tilt angle 18ْ with using the vibrating movement. 2. The obtained data for potato showed that the highest percentage of harvesting efficiency of 93 % was recorded at forward speed of 2.6 km / h and tilt angle (18 deg.), with using the vibrating movement. While the lowest percentage of harvesting efficiency of 79.7 % was recorded at forward speed of 1.6 km / h and tilt angle (12 deg.), without using the vibrating movement. For peanut the highest percentage of harvesting efficiency of 95.12 % was recorded at forward speed of 2.3 km / h and tilt angle (12 deg.), with using the vibrating movement. While the lowest percentage of harvesting efficiency of 84.62 % was recorded at forward speed of 1.4 km / h and tilt angle (24 deg.), without using the vibrating movement. 3. The developed root crops digger reduced the cost of damage percentage and saved from about 40.35 to 75.35 L.E / fed, for potato and about from 55 to 120 L.E / fed, for peanut. 4. The operation costs, using the developed root crops digger and tractor, reached 91.55 L.E/fed for potato, and 101.24 L.E/fed for peanut.
