Abstract

The present study was conducted during the three successive seasons of 2005, 2006 and 2007 in a private vineyard located at EL-Khatatba district, EL-Monofia Governorate. Vines of Superior seedless cv. grafted on Teleki 5C, Paulsen 1103 and SO4 rootstocks in comparison to Superior seedless on own root acting as control. Effect of rootstocks on scion yield and vigour has been well documented; most results showed that rootstock significantly affects scion vigour and yields. Results got from the study could be summarized as follows : 1- Bud burst percentages on Teleki 5C rootstock, gained the highest values 95.5, 97.3 and 95.1, respectively followed by Superior on Paulsen 1103 and SO4 rootstocks. Superior on his own root gave the lowest values in this respect during the seasons of study. 2- Bud fertility percentages on Teleki 5C rootstock, gained the highest values (68.4 and 65.1 %). whereas, Superior on his own root gave the lowest values of bud fertility percentages during this study. 3- Superior on Teleki 5C rootstock produced the highest number of shoots followed by SO4 compared with Superior on his own root and Paulsen rootstock. 4- Teleki rootstock gave the highest number of leaves followed by Paulsen and SO4 rootstocks. 5- The shoot length increased gradually through the considered sampling dates. Own rooted vines resulted in the shortest length (179.3 cm) at the end of May for 2005 season. Teleki and SO4 recorded the highest values of shoot length in this season. 6- All rootstocks used increased the shoot diameter as compared with the control. Teleki followed by Paulsen and SO4 rootstocks recorded the highest values. 7- The differences between the rootstocks concerning the parameters of vine vigor (expressed as shoot diameter, shoot length and number of leaves/shoot) in the two seasons (2006 and 2007) indicated that Teleki gave the highest increment in this respect followed by SO4 and Paulsen. On the contrary, control was the lowest one in this respect. 8- Leaf area of Superior seedless grapevine on Teleki rootstock, gained the highest values 199.9, 261.4 and 306.4 cm2. While, Superior on his own root gave the lowest values in this respect during the study. 9- The increments in trunk diameter of Superior seedless grapevine on Teleki rootstock gained the highest values (2.0, 4.8 and 12.4 mm) from March to October, compared with Superior on his own root which gave the lowest values in this respect (1.4, 1.12 and 4.33 mm) of the three seasons of this study. 10- Weight of pruning wood on Teleki rootstock gained the highest values (1.25 and 3.59 kg), but, Superior on his own root gave the lowest values= in this respect compared with the other rootstocks in 2005/06 and 2006/07 Seasons. 11- Paulsen rootstock, gained the highest values of root diameter (10.58mm) as an average in three seasons, whereas, Superior on his own root gave the lowest values in this respect compared with the other rootstocks used. 12- The differences between the rootstocks concerning the parameters of vine vigor the (root length between rows and vines cm) in the three seasons (2005, 2006 and 2007) show that Teleki rootstock gave the highest increment in this respect followed by Paulsen and SO4. On the contrary, control was the lowest one in this respect. 13- The highest yield/vine was produce from Superior vines on Teleki rootstock followed by Paulsen and SO4 rootstocks compared with the control. Moreover, Superior on Teleki rootstock significantly increased the yield to attain (34.4 and 39.0 kg/vine) compared with Superior seedless grapevines grown on their own roots which gave the lowest yield/vine (6.0 and 12.1 kg/vine) in 2006 and 2007 seasons. 14- The highest percentage of the increase in yield ranged from 473.3 to 222.3 % in the first and second seasons for Teleki rootstock, from 263.3 to 156.2 % for Paulsen and from 248.3 to 123.1 % for SO4 rootstock compared with the control (own-rooted).
