Abstract

Two field trials were conducted at El-Serw Agricultural Research Station, Dammietta Governorate through summer seasons 2006-2007. This investigation aims to study the effect of application of some amendments (organic matter and gypsum) with drainage water in irrigation. Adding gypsum reduced soil electrical conductivity (EC) values. In contrast, adding the organic matter slightly increased soil salinity. Application of soil amendments lead to a significant reduction in sodium adsorption ratio but gypsum amendment was more effective than organic amendment while, organic amendment was more effective than gypsum in reducing pH values and increasing available nutrient (N, P, K). Soil amendments application also, resulted in increasing dry weigh, straw and grain yield for rice plant. It could be concluded that under re-using drainage water in irrigation in North Delta region, applying soil amendments is very important to obtain permanent sustainability of soil productivity.
