Abstract

This dissertation aims to improve corrosion resistance of titanium and 316L stainless steel that are used as a bio implanted sheets for bone replacement. The improvement where done by electrophoretic deposition of some materials that have high corrosion resistance and bioactivity such as titanium dioxide and hydroxyapatite that has the same chemical structure of human bone then the formed coats where characterized using different techniques such as scanning electron microscope, x-ray diffraction, IR and other different techniques. 316L SS where electropolished in acidic bath of concentrated phosphoric and sulforic acid of different proportions and the process was done at different conditions of temperature, electropolishing time and applied voltages then the electropolished surfaces were characterized using scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction , EDAX technique and other techniques . Finally the corrosion behavior of all the improved sheets were studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and the results shows that the electropolished 316L SS has the greatest corrosion resistance.
