Abstract

It was aimed in this study to evaluate the hypolipidemic effect’of vitamin-C and bezafibrate in different hyperlipidemic states either alone or in combination. The material of this study comprised 61 patients with hyperlipidemia ( Patients with diabetes mellitus, hypertension with or without I.H.D. ), who were divided into 3 groups. Patients recieving vitamin-C, others recieving bezafibrate and the 3 rd group recieved combined vitamin-C and bezafibrate. Ten normal individuals were selected as control group. The studied cases were subjected to thorough clinical examination and laboratory investigations including fasting blood sugar, serum total lipids, serum triglycerides, .serum cholesterol, serum calcium serum phosphorous, blood urea and serum bilir- ubin. These investigations were performed before, one month and two months after administration of the hypolipidemic agents given. * 4 • Administration of 1% gm. vitamin-C for one month produced highly significant decrease in cholesterol, while triglycer- V ides and total lipids showed insignificant decrease. But after two months of its administration there was highly significant decrease in cholesterol, triglycerides and total lipids. Diabetic patients recieving vitamin-C for two months showed.
