Abstract The aim of the work: To reviewing the literatures concerning the different causesof ptosis, types, diagnosis and the propermanagement foreach type. Introduction: Blepharoptosis is the most common anomaly of the eyelid and presents as an abnormal drooping of the upper eyelid with secondary narrowing of the vertical fissure of the eye. It can be unilateral or bilateral Congenital ptosis is usually present at birth but may manifest in first year of life. Acquired ptosis includes neurogenic, myogenic, traumatic and mechanical ptosis Lid height or palpebral fissure, levator function, eyelid crease and Bell’s phenomenon are important points in examination and diagnosis of ptosis and choice of treatment Generally, treatment of ptosis comprises a watch and wait policy, prosthesis or surgery. Many surgical techniques have been described for the repair of ptosis. The ptosis surgeon should be aware of a variety of different techniques. This allows for the selection of the most appropriate technique for each individual patient Conclusion: Surgical management of ptosis depend on levator function and the degree of ptosis .. Other new advances in ptosis repair including the use of radio surgery and laser which make the operation less time consuming and less bleeding and more easier. |
