Abstract

The present study has been dealt with the morphology and anatomy of four monogeneans, belonging to two genera namely Schilbetrematoides Kritsky and Kulo, 1992 and Schilbetrema Paperna and Thurston, 1968. These monogeneans are Schilbetrematoides aegypticus n.sp., Schilbetrema quadricornis schilbe Paperna and Thurston, 1968, Schilbetrema acornis Paperna and Thurston, 1968 and Schilbetrema aegyptica El-Naggar, 1985. All of these monogeneans were collected from the gills of the Nile freshwater fish Schilbe mystus Ruppell, 1832. Also, the present study has focused on the surface features of Schilbetreama aegyptica using scanning electron microscopy. Moreover, the chaetotaxy of Schilbetrematoides aegypticus n.sp., Schilbetrema quadricornis schilbe and schilbetrema aegyptica were studied in detail using silver nitrate staining technique. Schilbetrematoides aegypticus, Schilbetrema quadricornis, and S.acornis are reported for the first time in Egypt. Schilbetrematoides aegypticus of the present study differs markedly from all previously described monogeneans of the genus Schilbetrematoides in the measurements of different parts of the body and structure of the copulatory apparatus and haptoral sclerites.
