Abstract

This thesis is devoted to the development of new methods for the analysis of certain phenolic compounds of pharmaceutical interest, namely: Fenoterol Hydrobromide (FNT), Isoxsuprine Hydrochloride (ISP), Ritodrine Hydrochloride (RTH) and Tolterodine Tartrate (TOL) both, in pure for as well as in pharmaceutical preparations. The thesis is divided into 5 parts:- Part I provides a general introduction about the phenolic compounds. Part II describes two simple methods for determination of TOL. The first method depends on measurement of the native fluorescence of the drug at λex 289/ λem 316 nm and the second method depends on measurement of the fluorescence after the derivatization of the drug with Dansyl chloride at λex 345/ λem 512. Part III in this part a binary mixture of ISP and RTH was resolved using two techniques; the first one is a combination technique of H-point standard addition method (HPSAM) and synchronous fluorimetry with UV-detection, the second one is reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) at 221 nm. Part IV describes simple spectrophotometric methods for determination of RTH. These methods were performed by the reaction of the drug with three different reagents namely NBD-Cl, Ferric - phenanthroline reagent and Folin-Ciocalteu reagent at 392, 510 and 760 nm respectively. Part V describes Simple spectrofluorimetric method for determination of RTH and FNT. This method depends on their reaction with Dansyl chloride at λex 343/ λem 515 and at λex 348/ λem 517 for RTH and FNT respectively. In all parts, the validation criteria, experimental parameters and proposed schemes of the developed methods were intensively studied and explained. All the results were statistically analyzed and compared with those given by comparison methods.
