Abstract

This thesis is devoted to the pharmacognostical study of some plants belonging to family Lythraceae. It concerned with the genus Ammannia which is aquatic weed that grows mainly in rice fields in Egypt. The thesis is divided into 4 parts:- Part I - Chapter I: Chemical Investigation of Ammannia auriculata Willd. - Chapter II: Chromatographic Investigation of Pet. Ether Fraction of Ammannia auriculata Willd. - Chapter III: Chromatographic Investigation of The Methylene Chloride Fraction of Ammannia auriculata Willd. - Chapter IV: Chromatographic Investigation of The EtOAc Fraction of Ammannia auriculata Willd. - Chapter V: Chromatographic Investigation of The Aqueous Fraction of Ammannia auriculata Willd. Part II Comparative Phytochemical Investigation of A. baccifera and A. aegyptiaca with A. auriculata. Part III Biological study of Ammannia auriculata Willd. 1- Microwell cytotoxicity using Brine Shrimp. 2-Cytotoxicity using SRB 3-Antimicrobial screening. 4-Antioxidant activity. Part IV Botanical Study of Ammannia auriculata Willd. Macro and Micromorphological Studies of Ammannia auriculata Willd.
