Abstract

Phosphoric acid is one of the most important raw materials for the production of a series of essential products for the human life today. Examples are mineral phosphate fertilizers which are used in millions of tons in the agricultural industry. Enormous quantities of phosphates are important for the production of essential basic food. So, the major goal of this study is to purify phosphoric acid from some metallic and non metallic impurities using different separation techniques. 1- Removal of impurities using different techniques: from the studying the adsorption of heavy metals present in the wet process phosphoric acid we notice that, removal of heavy metals from phosphoric acid is not an easy task. 2- Precipitation of copper and cadmium using sodium sulphide: The purification of WPPA using sodium sulphide gave satisfactory results. 3- Decreasing iron content from phosphoric acid: A new method for decreasing iron content from WPPA is used by complexation with aminotrimethylene phosphonic acid. 4- Purification of wet process phosphoric acid using solvent extraction: The effect of organic solvent concentration, phosphoric acid concentration, temperature, shaking time and org. / aq. phase ratio on the P2O5 extraction was studied.
