Abstract There experiments were carried out in the growth chambers and laboratories of the biology institute, Marburg university, West Germany, to study the effect certain growth substances on plant pigments. In the first experiment 14 species were used for determining chlorophyll a, b as well as the carotenoids in their leaves during seedling stage. The seedlings were sprayed with IAA, GA3, kinetin as well as 2,4-D. In the second experiment, seeds of lupinus termis, Gossypium barbadens and Ricinus communis were used. The growth substance used was ABA to determine the same pigments mentioned in the first experiment. In the third experiment, seeds of Helianthus annuus, Gossypium barbadens and Ricinus communis were used. The growth substances used were IAA, kinetin and GA3. At each sampling date the morphological characters of the cotyledonary leaves and hypocotyls, chlorophylls as well as carotenoids contents were recorded. Photosystem I as well as photosystem II were also recorded in the isolated cjloroplasts. The accumulation of chlorophyll in vivo was followed by measuring the absorption spectra of intact leaves. |
