Abstract Six experiments were performed at the experimental farm of Gemmeiza Agriculture Research Station, during the consecutive crop seasons of 1980/81 and 1981/ 82 to investigate the effect of three planting dates, i.e. D1 : early planting on Nov. 25; D2 , medium planting on Dec. 15 and late planting on Jan. 5; seven treatments of aromatic compounds spraying, i.e. Ao (untreated plots), A1 (neroli 0.5%), A2 (neroli 1%), A3 (comarina 1%). A4 (comarina 2%). A5 (honey flavour 1%) and A6 (honey flavour 2%) as well as three potassium fertilization levels, i.e. Ko (without K), Kl (36 Kg2O/fad.) and K2 (72 Kg k2o/fad.) on the developmental variables pollinating insects activity, nectar characteristics, seed yield and its components and seed quality of onion cultivar ”Giza 20’’ Salient results from these investigations are summarized below: 1. Average number of days from planting to emergence of seed-stalks decreased with successive dates of planting, therefore, the least number was recorded with late planting on Jan. 5. |
