Abstract

The present dissertation aimed to investigate the effect of nitrogen, phosphorus and micronutrients and their interaction on corn growth and yield under calcareous soil conditions.
Two field experiments were conducted during the two growing seasons of 1993 and 1995 at EI-Noubariea region to study the effect of both nitrogen and phosphorus at different rates as a soil application and iron, zinc and manganese as a foliar application in chelate forms on corn plants grown on calcareous soils.
The used experimental design was split split plot design with three replicates. The main plots were randomly assigned to four nitrogen treatments (0, 40, 80 and 120 kgN/fed.), the subplots to three phosphorus treatments (0, 15 and 30 kg P20slfed.) and the sub-subplots to five micro-nutrients treatments [(control), (Fe 300 p.m.), (Zn 150 p.m.), (MN 150 p.m.) and (mixture of Fe + Zn + MN)]. Thus each experiment was consisted of 60 treatments replicated three times, which were resulted in total experimental units of 180 plots.
Along growing periods, two samples were taken periodically after 70 - 75 days from planting and at harvest (110 - 115 days from sowing) to study the differential responses of plant growth characteristics, yield and yield components and mineral composition of corn plants to the studied factors.
