Abstract

Two experiments were carried out at Barrage Experimental Station of the Ministry of Agriculture in summer and late summer r season of 1970.
The study aimed at investigating the effect of different nitrogen levels and time of application on growth, yield and nitrogen uptake by tomato and cucumber crops
:The results could be summarized as follows
1- Both nitrogen levels and application dates showed no significant effect on plant growth, fruit yield and either dry matter contents of fruits for tomato and cucumber. The nitrogen uptake in both crops was else unattested by the previous aspects.
2- 2)During the first 30 days from transplanting of summer crops tomato plants slowly increased in length but this was followed by a rapid rate at increase in the following growth period that extended 105 days and slowed down again at the end at the cropping, In the late summer season , however, the plant rapidly increased in length from transplanting reaching a peak at 75 days later and then slowed down till the end of the life cycle . The periodic increases in length of cucumber plant were at its peak at flowering in both plantations.
