Abstract

The present work deals with the geology of the Tertiary-Quaternary sediments constituting the subsurface succession west the Nile Delta region. Composite logs, well cuttings and core samples were provided by Phillips Petroleum Company. One hundred and fifty samples were selected to represent the rock units in three wells namely Hosh Isa-1, Damanhour South-1 and Abu Quir-2 Fig.1). The total thickness of the succession examined ranges from 2083 meters to 2675 meters. Stratigraphy The Tertiary - Quaternary subsurface section west the Nile Delta mainly of shales and sands. It unconformably overlies the upper cretaceous limestone.
