Abstract

Objectives: Evaluate the effectiveness of some weed control methods on dodder in Egyptian clover cultivars, multi-cut and mono-cut, as well as to detect their effect on some clover characteristics Methods & Results: Three field exp. Were carried out at S.A.R.S. farm during 2007/2008 and 2008/2009 seasons. The first exp. Was for type multi-cut clover in split plot design with four replication. Two Egyptian clover cultivars namely, Helaly (A1) and Sakha 96 (A2) in the main plots, and ten control methods of dodder weed in the sub plot namely: B1: C. non infested, B2: C. infested, B3: C. mixed with rye grass, B4: C. mixed with barley, B5: C. infested and treated by butralin B6, C. infested and treated by glyphosate, B7: C. infested and mixed with rye-grass, B8: C. infested and mixed with barley, B9: plots infested and treated by false irrigation and tillaged after 20 days and sowing clover, B10 as the same of B 9 without tillage. The second experiment for type mono-cut fahl for fresh yield and the third experiment for type mono-cut for seed yield and the same treatment B1-B10. Studied characters were: plant height, fresh leaf/stem ratio, and dry, fresh and dry yield ton/fed, total chlorophyll content and seed yield kg/fed. The obtained results could be summarized as follows: no. significant differences were occurred between cultivars for all characters studied, except seed yield. Dodder weed led to significant decrease all characters studied of type multi-cut and type mono-cut except, plant height of fahl. Egyptian clover non-infested were the highest value of all characters studied compared to other treatments. The treatments B9 (False irrigation) followed by B10 and B9 (butralin) were the best treatments of control dodder in the two types of Egyptian clover. The effect of dodder weed increased from fresh yield of dry yield and the highest on seed yield. The interaction between cultivars and treatments were not significant of most characters studied in most cuttings in the two seasons. Conclusion: Application of false irrigation with tillage 20 days before sowing should be recommended in case of dodder weed infection to get maximum green and seed yield of Egyptian clover.
