Abstract The main objectives of this investigation were to determine the amounts of heterosis over both the mid-parents and the better parent, type of gene action and heritability in both broad and narrow senses as well as phenotypic and genotypic correlation coefficients for all traits under study in sunflower. The genetic materials used in the present investigation included 11 parental lines of oil seed sunflower were obtained from Oil Crops Research Section, EI-Serw Agricultural Research Station Six fertility restorer lines (RF. Lines) : R4). Two lines of them were introduced from USDA (R3 and • Four lines from Oil Crops Res. Section, EI-Serw Agric. Res. Station, Egypt (R11, R12, R14, R.) :(J Five cytoplasmic male sterile (C.M.S.) sunflower lines (A line• The first line (AI) introduced from U.S.D.A.(Ha 89) • The other lines (A3, A6, A9 and AI9) produced in Oil Crops section, EI-Serw Agric. Res. Station, Egypt. The single crosses between the eleven parental lines were made according to Factorial Mating Design. In this respect, the six (R.F.) lines ,and five C.M.S. (A) lines was initiated in 1999 growing season at EI-Serw Agric. Res. Station. In 2000 growing season, two experiments were carried out at EI-Serw Agric. Res. Station, Damietta Governorate, in both seasons the Summer season (SI) and the NiH season (S2). Each experiment was designed in a randomized complete blocks with three replications to evaluate all genotypes which involved 11 parental lines and their 30 FJ hybrids resulted from 6 x 5 Factorial Mating Design for the following traits : |
