Abstract The results of the present study could be summarized in the following points : 1- Calodosporium herbarum is the principle incitant of sooty mold on cotton under Egyption conditions. 2- The diseases was surveyed in commercial fields of Gharbiya, Daqahlia, Damietta, beheira in the nile delta, and faiyum in middle Egypt. Disease intensity variables tended to be higher in the delta governorates, compared to faiyum. 3- properties of cotton fibes were differently affected by the disease. These properties included fiber length at 50%, fiber lengh at 2.5 % fiber lengh uniformity ratio, floating fiber index, fiber index at 1.8 gauge, fiber strength at 0 gauge, fiber strength uniformity ratio, elongation, micronaire reading, maturity ratio, hair weight, yarn strength, sugar content, fiber damage index, ph. Of these properties, sugar content, fiber damage index and ph were the chemical proerites all other properties were physical. |
