Abstract

The present work was designed to determine whether dietary supplementation with zinc (Zn), vitamin E (Vit.E), cysteine (Cys.), and their combination may alleviate the toxicity induced by methyl mercury chloride (MMC). ?Adult male albino rats, with initial body weight of 150¬170 g were used in the present study. The animals were kept under good ventilation and fed on standard diet. The animals were divided into seventeen groups:¬ Control group: did not receive any treatment. Three groups: treated with either zinc, vitamin E or cystiene. MMC¬treated group: rats of this group were injected with o.5 mg/kg MMC only for 3 weeks. Six MMC¬treated groups simultaneously supplemented with Zn, Vit.E or Cys. given indepenently or in combination for 3 weeks. Six groups treated with MMC for 3 weeks, then post¬treated with Zn, Vit.E or Cys. given indepenently or in combination for 3 weeks. The results obtained can be summarized.
