Abstract

Several studies have suggested that the immune mechanisms are involved in the athogenesis of hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. The aim of our work is to study the immuneregulatory dysfunction in children with chronic hepatitis, also to evaluate the genetic predisposition for the concurrent immunological markers (ANA SMA., LKMA), further more to assure any association between HLA phenotype and antibody production in these patients. • The frequency of expression of class I HLA may increase with chronic viral hepatitis B14, B27 and B37 are significantly associated with increased risk for viral hepatitis • The frequency of expression of class I HLA A1-A2-Al 1 and B44 are high although they are not significant. • The frequency of class II HLA, DR. group expression associated with chronic viral hepatitis while HLA, DR8 is significant HLA, DR3 - HLA, DR4 are not significantly associated. • Children with chronic viral hepatitis have a high frequent serologic antoimmune markers ANA, ASMA and LKM. • The expression of autoantibodies could not be linked to HLA calss I or class II. • This work has suggested that there might be association between some HLA-DR2 class and the asymptomatic state of HBV and HCV infection. • HLA, B37 and HLA DR8 subtypes might primarily associate with the progression of liver disease.
