Abstract general strategy of this study was based on evaluation of the possibility of applying different methods, activated carbon, ion exchange resin and oxidation chlorination, for treating hydrogen sulfide from groundwater in Kuwait city. Activated carbon was used in treating groundwater with hydrogen sulfide concentrations of 100 and 150 mg/l at flow rates between 10-20 ml/min. The results indicated that, the activated carbon has high competence in removing sulfide with efficiency in the range of 7 to 9 mg sulfide removed per gram of activated carbon. Ion exchange which remove hydrogen sulfide concentrations of 250 mg/l with flow rate of 20 ml/min. The results indicated that the ion exchange resin has high competence in removing sulfide with efficiency of 6 mg sulfide removed per gram resin. Chlorination which remove hydrogen sulfide concentration of 150 mg/l of sulfide. The results indicated that the chlorination has high efficiency in removing 1 g of sulfide per 2.8 g of chlorine. The final results indicated that the most efficient treatment method is chlorination which has a lowest material cost compared with activated carbon and ion exchange methods. |
