Abstract The study was carried out to study the normal anatomical and histological structure of the reproductive organs of female buffaloes from 18 up to 30 mo of age. The animals used in this study were taken from slaughter houses during the period from October, 1994 to October 1995. Nine non-pregnant buffaloes were collected at three of post pubertal ages 18, 24 and 30 mo of age, three animals of each age. The anatomical and histological examination were recorded from each organ in the Physiology Laboratory of the Animal Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University. The obtained results are summarized as follows: 1- Ovary Ovarian weight increased progressively with age, from 4.20 gm at 18 mo to 7.80 gm at 30 mo with significant (P<0.05) increase between 24 and 30 mo of age. Weight of the right ovary tended to be insignificantly higher than that of the left ovary at all studied ages. Length of the two ovaries showed a significant (P<0.05) increase between 24 and 30 of age. Width of the two ovaries showed gradually slight increase with age progress, while the width of the left ovary increased significantly (P<0.05) from 24 to 30 mo of age. Thickness of the ovary was slightly increased with age progress, It ranged between 0.8 and 1.1 em throughout all ages studied. |
