Abstract
The present study was conducted at EI-Serw Experimental Station, Animal Production, Research Institute, Agricultural Research Center, and the Animal Production Department. Faculty 01 Agriculture, MansDura University dlJring 1995. The main objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of feeding green reeds as a main source of forage compared w ith either berseem or green sorghum on the performance of lactating Zaraibi goats. Twenty four lactating female Zaraibi goats . with an average of 26 months of age and weighing an average 3 0.0 kg were selected from El-Serw Station Herd and was used in the present study. The animals were in the 2nd. season of lactation. In addition to the previous animals, there were eighteen adult Zaraibi male goats were used tor running the digestion trials (three animals each). The 24 anima ls were divided randomly into four equal groups, sex goats each, according to their live body weight. Animals were weighed at the beginning and twa weeks intervals, taking the average to the nearest 0 .5 kg. The animals were fed for two weeks as a transi tional period on the same rations befo re the start of the 105 experimental work.
