Abstract In fact, the final choice of an appropriate milling machinery system, to be used inside the recent Egyptian rice mills is strongly dependent upon the machinery design feature and the pre-milling grain states. Therefore, four different milling machinery systems were chosen in the present study in order to evaluate their mechanical performance in milling process. These systems included the one-pass Satake milling system (M1); two-passes Satake milling system (M2); three-passes Satake milling system ( M3) and Engelbarg milling system (M4) or locally system. However the milled grain quality, machinery energy consumption, and the milling costs, were assumed as indications to evaluate the mechanical performance of these mills. The evaluating was also deduced under three different pre-milling grain parameters. Whereas, three different rice varieties, were adapted by two harvesting methods, and three different grain moisture content levels. Meanwhile, the milled rice samples were sorted to determine the resulted rice grade. While, accounting both electrical and human power rates were used to estimate the specific energy consumption during its milling operation for each system. Also, the milling machinery cost was calculated according to the ASAE standard methods. |
