Abstract This present research work was carried out in the biogas laboratory of the Agricultural Engineering Department in order to study the possibility of utilizing solar energy systems as a supplement heating in the biogas digester from May 2002 until February 2003. The main objectives of this study were to investigate the effect of temperature and hydraulic retention time (HRT) on the efficiency of anaerobic fermentation wastes using four different levels of operating temperatures 35, 40, 45 and 50 oC with three different hydraulic retention times 20, 24 and 28 days. The greatest energy production was found to be on the average 1376.336 and 137.430 kWh which executed at 20 days HRT and operating temperature of 50 oC followed by the operating temperatures of 45, and 40 oC. While, the lowest energy production was found to be on average 28.489 kWh which produced at 28 days HRT and operating temperature of 35 oC. However, the greatest energy consumption was found to be on average 136.519, 117.016, and 97.203 kWh which occurred at operating temperature of 50 oC and hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 28, 24, and 20 days respectively during winter season. While, the lowest energy consumption was found to be on average 37.012, 31.725, and 26.438 kWh at operating temperature of 35 oC and hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 28, 24, and 20 days respectively during summer season. The greatest net energy was found to be on average 88.567 and 107.597 kWh at 20 days HRT and operating temperature of 40 oC during winter and summer seasons respectively. |
