Abstract Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is much more prevalent than ever before .It can ever be diagnosed before the visibility of pseudoexfoliation material on the lens surface. The recent evidence of systemic involvement raises the question of unusual symtomatology in other organs. Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is currently the most common identifiable specific entity leading to the development of open angle glaucoma and has recently become recognized as an important risk factor for angle closure glaucoma as well. Glaucomatous damage in pseudoexfoliation syndrome tends to be more sever than in chronic open angle glaucoma .Although treatment has been virtually identical to that for chronic open angle glaucoma, differences in response to medication are apparent, so laser and surgical interventions are often requried and recently new surgical approaches are developed. |
