Abstract
DISSERTATION ABSTRACT (ONE PAGE A4) On comparing the antiasthmatic effects of propolis, thymoquinone and curcumin, it was found that thymoquinone may be the most potent mast cell stabilizer and the most potent inhibitor of iNOS mRNA expression in lungs of mice. It also exerted superior inhibitory effects on the aggregation of inflammatory cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and in lung tissues. Propolis was found to exert the most potent bronchorelaxant effects and to show superior inhibitory effects on TGF-β1 mRNA expression. Curcumin showed the least inhibitory effects on all measured parameters except for the TNF-α mRNA expression levels in lungs of mice.
