Abstract Damietta Province had been surveyed to stand on the patterns of Plantago major distribution, composition of its community, Plantago major was found to be distributed in 7 habitat types. and associated with 24 species ( 14 annuals and 10 perennials) belonging to 23 genera and related to 11 families- seed was exposed to wide range of NaCl, nitrogen and phosphorous. Germination was high at low salinity levels and at 0.3 and 3mM nitrogen concentrations and with 0.4 and 1mM phosphorous concentrations. Plantago major had wide amplitude and grown in soils with wide range of moisture content, salinity, and nutrients. In conclousion, salinity, water availability, nutrients like sulphates, calcium carbonates, nitrogen and phosphorous supply were the main soil components affects growth and chemical composition of the medicinal species Plantago major |
