Abstract

This study was conducted in a private farm at Belgas, Dakahlia Governorate during the to successive seasons of 1996,1997.
This investigation aimed to study the effect of magnesium fertilization as soil or foliar application on yield and fruit quality of Williams banana. The effect of magnesium fertilization on the content of nitrogen, magnesium, potassium and calcium leaves was also included.
The obtained results could be summarized as follows :
1- All magnesium application significantly increased both average bunch and hand weight than the control.
2- Spraying banana plants magnesium at 2% combined with either 60 or 120 gm/plant as soil fertilization increased both bunch and hand weight than other treatments used the control.
3- Plants treated with magnesium at 2% as foliar application with 120 gm/plants as soil fertilization gave more pronounced effect in this respect. Since, this treatment increased bunch weight by about 30.1% than the control as mean of two season under the study.
