Abstract Two pot experiments were carried out in the green house and Laboratories of the Agricultural Botany Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Mansoura University during the two growing seasons of 1985 and 1986. The experiments aimed to investigate the effects of two growth substances on some morphological and anatomical characters as well as certain physiological aspects of J. acutus and J. rigidus throughout the experimental period. In addition, the taxonomical relationship between the two species was also explored. The two plant species were sprayed twice till dripping with each dose concentration of either NAA (5O, 100 and 150 mg/l) or MH (50, 100 and 150 mg/l)mixed with ”Tween 20” as a wetting agent (2 mI/l). The first application was carried out one month from the green culms emergence and the second at the beginning of inflorescence emergence. Moreover, soaking technique was employed for NAA application. Soaking of rhizomes took place for 48 h. Data recorded could be summarized under the following headings : 5.1 - Morphological characters: 5.1.1 - Soaking in NAA at each dose concentration used increased percentage of rhizomes producing new green culms and the increase was a concentration dependent. |
