المستخلص The present study aimed at enabling students of the secondary stage to get to know the current environmental issues and trends, as well as developing the environmental awareness in secondary stage students. Specifically, it aimed at building up a unit for developing environmemtal awareness in first year secondary students in the light of the current environmental trends. The methodology of the study adopted the descriptive approach for identifying and classifying the current environmental trends, as well as gathering all the data, measuring and explaining them. It was also used for identifying the relationship between the variables of the study. The study also adopted the experimental approach for experimenting the suggested unit and applying the test. Results of the study indicated that the unit being studied entitled ”The sustainable development of the environment and its resources” had a significant effect onnts, stude concerning increasing their achievement level, and a significant effect on developing students’ environmental awareness. Recommendations of the study suggested that the objectives of the 1st year secondary geography curriculum should be recondidered. The researcher also suggested that such curriculum should include the local and universal environment issues. The study also suggested training students in selflearning and noticing the envirnmental changes. The sudy suggested enhancing the relationship between the school and the local environmnet as well. |
