Abstract The production of compact yarn has shown progressive increase in the last ten years. The superior quality of the yarn produced particularly in strength and hairiness not only is reflected on the end product quality, but also on post spinning processes performance. The distinguished quality of these types of yarn gives it an increased share in the niche market. Recently the trend extends to the use of twisted compact yarn for more even, stronger and less hairy yarns (for the equivalent count). This last trend needs to be thoroughly investigated to evaluate the effect of compacting single compact yarn even more through the production of twisted compact yarn. In this research experimental analysis of physical and mechanical properties of single and plied yarns produced by conventional ring spinning and compact spinning was made aiming to illustrate how plying and twisting process is reflected on plied compact yarn as compared to ring spun yarn. Also experimental analysis of physical and mechanical properties of finished plied yarns produced by conventional ring spinning and compact spinning was made. Also an experimental study of the performance of the compact and conventional ring spun threads during and after sewing processes. Compact plied yarns can afford ply twist factor more than conventional plied yarns. Compact yarn with a low single twist factor and law ply twist factor can be used instead of conventional yarn with a high single twist factor and high ply twist factor and will be better in all characteristics and cheaper. Also singing and mercerizing can be cancelled for compact yarn. Compact threads show better performance during and after sewing processes |
