Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate creep, fracture toughness and microhardness of a nano-ionomer restorative material (Ketac N100) comparing it with a resin-modified glass ionomer restorative material (Photac Fil). A custom-made apparatus was used to evaluate compressive creep by applying a static, uniaxial load on each specimen for one hour then the load was removed and specimens were allowed to recover. To calculate creep, changes in length of specimens were recorded each minute for the whole 90 minutes of loading and unloading. Fracture toughness was determined using single-edge notched specimens loaded in transverse bending. For hardness testing, a Vickers microhardness tester was used. The results of the study showed that the nano-ionomer showed lower values for creep and higher values for fracture toughness and hardness.
