This study aimed to describe the effects of the challenges of globalization, especially the cultural globalization, on young people, through the study of cultural globalization and its social and economic effects on young people and the opinion of young people on the same, as well as cultural invasion and how to face it. This has been done through the study of one of the most important tools of cultural globalization used by young people, i.e. the Internet, to try to explore the social and economic effects of the use the Internet by young people at the University of Mansoura and whether such uses were positive or negative. The study explores the most important websites visited by young people, the most significant motives behind visiting such websites, and the number of hours spent on such visits, as well as describing the affects of the social networking websites such as chatting rooms and Facebook, etc. The study tried also to explore the negative effects of the Internet such as damage to health, ethical harms, Internet addiction, and Internet crimes. The field study has reached several important findings related to the most important positive effects that are the easy access and exchange to information, the increase of communication with friends and relatives, the increase of educational level. However, the study found some negative effects such as visiting prohibited websites, the negative impact on family life, and the isolation. The most significant finding is that the Internet is not bad in itself and that it has many useful aspects but the ways of use differs greatly. Thus the way of use affects the benefits generated by the Internet to young people. This study included some concepts such as globalization, cultural globalization, chatting, Internet and youth. In this study, the theory of symbolic interaction has been used as it contributes to determine the temporal and spatial field through which the events take place, social norms prevailing in the community, and common behaviors practiced by people. The theory of symbolic interaction is interested in cultural issues and their effects, and therefore useful to determine the effects of cultural globalization. The study used the descriptive method. In addition, a questionnaire - including open-ended and close-ended questions - has been used to reflect the views of young people. The study took its samples from the students of the University of Mansoura.
