Abstract The ligands used in this study are biacetylmonoxime 2-amino-4,5-pentamethylene-thiophene-3-carbohydrazone (H2BMTC), salicaldehyde 2-amino-4,5-pentamethylene-thiophene-3-carbohydrazone (H2SATC), thiophene carboxaldehyde 2-amino-4,5-pentamethylene-thiophene-3-carbohydrazone (HTCTC) and isatin 2-amino-4,5-pentamethylene-thiophene-3-carbohydrazone (H2ISTC). The procedures of preparation of the ligands (H2BMTC, H2SATC, HTCTC and H2ISTC) and their metal complexes were described. Physical, elemental analyses, molar conductivities, spectral (1H NMR, IR, UV-Vis and mass) studies, magnetic measurements and thermogravimetric analysis have been used to characterize the isolated solid complexes. In order to assess the influences of the structural properties of the ligands and the type of the metal on thermal behavior of the complexes, the order (n) and the heat of activation (Ea) of the various decomposition stages are determined from the TG and DTG using the Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger methods. This section includes also the determination of the thermodynamic parameters of activation (ΔH, ΔS and ΔG) which can be calculated by Erying equation. Antimicrobial activity of the investigated ligands and their metal complexes were tested. The study also includes metal uptake of some metal ions using modified chitosan resin and modified magnetic chitosan resin. The resins were characterized on the basis of IR spectral studies, electron scanning microscope and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. |
