Abstract The present study was carried out by using two groups of experiments. The preliminary experiments were conducted by using two different types of milling machines. The first one was the steel huller milling machine (Engelbery-type) which located in villages. The second one was a modern rice milling machine, model (SE-19D). These experiments on both machines were to study the. effect of machine type, moisture contents and rice variety on the percentage of broken grains during mi 11 ing process. The main experiments were carried out by using only the modern milling machine because the previous preliminary results showed that, the lowest percentage of broken grains have been obtained from the modern milling machine. The present study was to investigate the effect of some operating parameters of modern mi 11 ing machine such as : four clearances between the two rollers, four linear speeds 01 the faster roller, two levels of feeding rate, and four levels of rice nloisture content by using two rice varieties (long grain variety Giza 181,and short grain variety Giza 171 ) on the fol lowing factors: a) The percentage of broken brown rice and unhulled grains. b) The hulling efficiency during hulllng stage. c) The percentage of broken milled rice kernels d) The degree of whitening after milling process. |
