Abstract
Our work started by reviev vling the literatures, the anatomy of the pleura, the physiology of the pleural space in health and in diseased states,pathology of pleural effusion as a whole, clinical presentation of empyema and lastly the radiology of pleural effusion, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and management of empyema.This work aims to evaluate the role of CT in diagnosis of empyema and its complications and shows how it may be helpful in its management.The material of our work was 30 patients ( 20 males + 10 females )their ages ranged from 6 months to 79 years. They were suffering from different symptoms and signs, cough and breath sound changes were the most common while clubbing of fingers and cyanosis were the less common signs.
