Abstract
The nerve membrane consists of a bimolecular framework of phospholipid molecules associated with a globular protein mosaic. This membrane separates the axoplaam from the extracellular fluid and has nonspecific channels; one permanent to sodium and the other to potassium; are thought to be controlled by gates which are voltage dependent.
