Abstract Toxoplasmosis is a common infection in Egypt. It is usually asymptomatic in healthy individuals, but it constitutes an important medical concern in pregnant women and immunodeficient individuals. The immune response against T. gondii involves both humoral and cellular components, Although the role of humoral immunity in protection remains questionable, in vivo and in vitro studies have shown that cell mediated immunity plays an essential role in protection. On the other hand, in chronic infection with Schistosoma mansoni, there is an immunosuppression or modulation. This is due to decreased number of T. lymphocytes and recruitment of suppressor T. cells. This immunosuppression tends to increase susceptibility to opportunistic infection. Toxoplasmosis is one of these infections that may occur in such cases. Hence, the a h of the present work is to detect the liability of the patients in late stage of hepatic schistosorniasis to Toxoplasma infection and evaluate various serological tests for diagnosis of toxoplasmosis in these patients. |
