Abstract

I- Histological and Hisochemical studies: The study followed the rate of development of muscle and gdls in the different ages of Cyprinus carpio, Tilapia zilli and G. affinis fish. The larva of C. carpio and T. zdli were obtained fiom the fish hatching pond in Fowa city while G. affinis were caught from El-Mehalla El-Kubra lakes. . In larva stage (2 days age) of fish, the muscles are composed of: 1- superficial layer surrounds nearly the whole body surface, run parallel to the body axis as a thin sheet just beneath the skin, covers the inner muscle mass from subdorsal to subventral, this layer has some of the properties of red muscle and thus will be called red layer. 2- deep white fibers consist of 5 - 6 layers, which constitute the major fraction of the muscle and it composed of large diameter fibers. As the larvae grow the superficial layer contract towards the lateral region of the body forming triangular space along the lateral line of the body.
