Abstract

In the present study, wheat grains var. Giza 163 were cultivated in clay soil under natural conditions at Faculty of Science, Tanta University, Egypt. fifty five pots (40 cm deep x 30 cm diameter) were divided into 11 groups representing the control (0.0), five concentrations for brominal treatment; (0.1 %, 0.3%, 0.5%, 0.7% and0.9%) and another five concentrations for granstar treatment; (1 x10-’%, 3x1 o”%, 4x1 0-’% 6xl0”, and 8x1 0-’%). Both selected herbicides were applied after 40 days 3. of sowing. Samples were taken after 30, 60 and 90 days from foliar spray of the herbicides; representing vegetative, flowering and fruiting stages respectively. Moreover, the effect of both herbicides on the plant yield, represented by grains, was investigated. The obtained results could be summarized as following : 1 - Application of ’both herbicides at different concentrations showed no significant effect on plant length, shoot height and root depth throughout growth stages. 2- Both treatments induced a marked decrease in leaf area at all growth stages except at the vegetative stage for granstar. 3- Brominal produced no significant change in both fiesh and dry weights of shoots and roots at the vegetative and fruiting stages. However, both dry weight of shoots and fresh weight of roots were significantly increased at the flowering stage. The response of both organs to granstar treatment was variable and had no definite trend, except a marked increase in shoots fresh weight at all growth stages.
