Abstract

The present study was conducted at S&a Agriculture Research Station Farm during 1977 and 1978 seasons. The main objective of this i n v e s t i g a t i o n rms to study the e f f e c t of plsit spacing and NIX f e r t i l i z e r s on the growth, y i e l d and yield components of two sw..flowsr c u l t i v a r s - Beside t h i s work, ~irnple c o r r e l a t i o n among different sunflower characters was also computed. The two experiments were laid out -in incomplete bl3cka design with tv3 replicates Thirty two treatments in each experiment werc studied which were the combination of: two cultivars (Giza 1 gad Mayak), two spacii~gs between hills (20 and 50 cm.) and! two levels of f e r t i l i z e r s (0 ad 45 kg) from each 0:7 I:, P 2 0 5 and K20. The s tudi ed c h a r a c t e r i s t i c s we r e nuaber of d~yst o budciing , number of days t o flowering, plant height, leaf a r e a p e r pli?;it, stern diameter, head diameter, 100-seed veight, seed yield per plmt, number of seeds per head, seed y i e l d per feddan, oil percentege, o i l y i e l d per feddm. The most important r e s u l t s w i l l b~ summarized as the followed : 1- Payak cultivar reached the buddFng and the flowering stages earlf cr than Giza 1 c~1t:~var. Increasing apacing between plmts up t o 50 cm. decreased the number of days from planting t o budding and flowering . The NPK f e r t i - l i z e r s had no significant effect on number of days to budding md flowering in the two seasons. The interactions between cultivars md phosphorous and between phosphorous axid potassium were affected significantly the number of days t o budding the first season. The interactions , cultivars x phosphorous end plat spacing x nitrogen x phosphomus had significant effect on the number of days fxm planting t o flowering in the first season, The other interactions in the f i r s t season and a l l b-teractions in the second season were not affected such character. 2-Giza 1 cultivas had significantly t a l l e r plants than Mayak in the two experiments. Increased plant spacing had no significant effect on plant height while phosphorous f e r t i l i z e r increased plant height in the first season. With regard to the effect of interactions bet- *>/een different factors, plant height of sunflower was af fected si@.fic~ntlyb y p l a n t spaciEz x nitroger, interaction in the first season and by cultivars x phosphorus x potassil-m interaction in the second season. 3-4iza 1 cllltivar had significantly larger leaf area per plmt than Maagalr . Increased plant spacttig and nitrogen f e r t i l i z e r increased signff icantly leaf area per plant in both seasons. As regard to interaction,the leaf area per plant was significmtly affected by cultivar x phosphorous interaction iY1 both seasons, cultivars x potasaiu- m, phosphorous x potassium azrd p l a n t spacing x nitrogen x potassium 1977 season. 4-The plmts of Gizi 1 were thicker the11 Uayak. Increasing plant spaciE~u p t o 50 cm. b-creaaed stem diameter.Wi’crogen f e r t i l i z e r h-creased significantly stem diemeter.The iateractfon of culeivars x phosphorous x potassium hed highly si@ificant hflucnce on stem dismeter in 1917 season. 5-The plants of Giza 1 had larger heads than Hayak. Increasing plcmt spacing up to 50 em. increased head dfameter. fhih nltrogen fertilizers increased signif icantlr head diameter, potassium f e r t i l i z e r tended to decrease it in the second season only. The kteraction between cultivars x potassium had significant effect on head diameter in 1978 season.
