Abstract

Two experiment8 were carried out i n t h e Faculty of Agri.culture Farm at Kafr El-Sheikh, Tanta University , Egypt, during two successive seasons 1985 and 1986. The objectives of these experiments were t o study the e f f e c t of application mode of nitrogen and Zinc on growth, yield, yield component and quality tests of rice cultivars . One l e v e l of N f e r t i l i z a t i o n was used, 60 Kg N/faddan i n form of urea (46.5 % N) a p p l i e d i n three d i f f e r - e n t modes as follow :- (a) Total nitrogen applied i n a single dressing by incorp o r a t i o n i n dry soil before transplantiog . (b) Totul n i t r o g e n applied i n two equal s p l i t dressings, one half as (a) and second one 7 days rlfter tnlnsp1r.itltiny,. (c 1 T o t u l n i t r o g e n applied a f t e r transplant in^; i n two equa-1 s p l i t dressing, a f t e r 7 and 15 daya from t-r-an:;- planting . One l e v e l of Zinc 20 Kg/fad. i n form of (Zn SOq.7~2~)~3u3se d. Each amount was a p p l i e d as fol low :- (i ) Without Zinc (control). (ii) The t o t a l amount was applied as s i n g l e dreusing I.n o the nursery , (iii) One half at nursery and one half t o the main field before transplanting . (iv) The seedling roots were soaked in 2 Y6 Za SO4. Rice cultivars used i n t h i s study were: Reiho 3 Q wonice cv* and IR 28; an indica cv. The planting date was May 26 in both seasons. The’ transplanting was done 35 days a f t e r sowing, A s p l i t - s p l i t plot design with four replicates was used whece the main plots were designated to nitrogen treatments, the sub plat to the cultivars and the sub ubp l o t t o the f o u r methods of Zinc appl i c a t ion, The measurements on growth charactexisties, yield, yield components, physical, physicochemical and chemical tests were carried out.
