Abstract

The purpose of the present study ws t o iavestigcLte the effectoof sprrying ”Le Conteil pezr fruits with klcr (Succinic e c i d 2,2, Dimethyl hydr. nz. id.- e)- at concentr tioffio f 1000, 2000 ~nd40 00 ppm, 2,4b5+ Trichloro . en4 200 p pm end Ethkel (2-bhloro-etlizn~ phoephonic rcid)ct concentrr,-,tion% of 250, 500 cnd 1OQO ppm on quclity d and atorcge e b i l i t y of the t r e a t e d f r u i t s during 1972 (August 22) and 1973 (2t three hrrvest dates August 31, September 7 2nd Septeub3~ 14) auril-g storcge a t roam temperrture md at 5•‹C. The results of the present study could be summaxized as follows: 1. The firmness of ”Le Contel* pe’r f r u i t s decrec-.tied i n both treeted zni! untrezted f r u i t s during storzge zt room tenpercture cnd zt 5OC i n 1972 ~,nd1 973. F r u i t firmness rcnged between 7.67 - 8.17 pounds per square i n c h zt mcturity ~t~gteh,e n fiecrezaed u n t i l i$ re~ched 6.03-7*86 pounds per square inch zt r i p e stcge i n 1972. The zpplic~~tioonf li-lar sf f ected f r u i t firmness s l i g h t l y i n both yecrs of study ziid the 4000 ppm of klcr wss the most pronounced during storzge et room temperztnre and et 5OC. 2. The per cent moiEi.’cure decrezaed i n both t r e s t e d cild untrezted fruits during storzge rt room temperc.ture in the f i r s t season 1972. I n the second season (1973) t!?e per cent moi s ture did not gre~tlgc knge i n both trected 2nd untrerted fr~its during storzge zt room tenperckure cnd rt 5OC. Pre ntor~ge trectments hzd no conzistent e f f e c t on the moisture percentzge i n the trected f r u i t s ca compc~ed with the untrezted ones. 3. The per cent totcl soluble s o l i d s in the juice of ”Le C~ntepe~cr~ f r u i t s incrcc~edi ;i fruits trected with Aler 2,:1,5-T z.nd Ethrel cs well cs i n the untl~ected f r u i t s i n both years of the present atudy. The per cent T.S.S, i n the juice of the f r u i t s raged between 11.32-12,60 a t ncturity 2nd incressed t o 14.70-15.76 at the ripe etc.ge. I n generz.1, Ethrel treztment gzve higher percentzge of T.3 .S. thcn the other treztments.
